Vegetarian cooking school

A recent article in the Northern Star talked to vegetarian chef Veet Karen Hedley, the interview discussed how becoming an apprentice chef is difficult for vegetarians due to handling meat being a requirement.

Hedley explained that when she was at work experience at age 15 she was ridiculed and laughed at, she was also told she wouldn’t make it in the business if she wasn’t prepared to cook meat. Despite the comments made she was determined to follow her passion and 8 years later she has established her own vegetarian catering business.

Her passion for vegetables and cooking has inspired her to open an Australian first vegetarian cooking school. The training program is aimed towards those who would like to work in the vegan or vegetarian restaurant business, or already trained chefs looking to expand their menus.

The training program will look at traditional training modules as well as modules that look at more specific vegetarian practises.
